I19.7.10

This will probably be not much on an update as the e-mail I received from Ripon over the W/E details the death of one of the competitors during the swim section. You sort of loose your “appetite” when this happens. The x Humber swim didn’t take place on Sunday as the conditions were described as “borderline” by Mark while we waited at Hessle RNLI station. I think that was a slight under estimate as Carl G admitted he was “nervous” and my mate Pete W (one of the Water Rats) and Tiny H didn’t look too confident either. My wife confirmed that I was “mental” for even contemplating it! I think it is going to be re-run next week on the 25th, subject to the weather. This week’s events are: Click’em Inn 5m road race on Wednesday, Duathlon 2/14/2 on Thursday and Docks on Saturday. I hope we can have safety cover for the swim from the canoe club if this can be confirmed. I realise its school holidays so events will be thin on the ground in the early part of August as I’m away with the family

Best wishes

26.7.10

There are a few snippets this week but the bulk of it all will be sent out on my return from holiday. I’m aware a lot is planned for early August: Hull triathlon, Beverley triathlon, Triple Ironman, Outlaw Ironman and double Croxby. If you compete please let me know your results good, bad or indifferent! The next club event is Thursday 12/8/10 and will be (subject to no roadwork’s) a 14 mile cycle route event. The weekend i.e. 15th will be busy as Beverley Tri is on as well as some members planning to “recce” the Vitruvian Route. We also need to start to think about the agenda for the AGM and what the club members want to do for 2011 season. I’ve been chairman for 5 years and while I am still happy a discussion regarding this and other positions seems fair. I’m aware that there are things afoot in the Humberside area and as usual I’ve been gently prompted regarding a formal juniors section, STAR accreditation, getting club members of referee, first aid and coaching courses.I've also just picked up an e-mail from Paul T and the x channel swim. Tried in Force 4 winds but had to bail out after 8 hours. Best wishes to you all and have a good holiday.

10.8.10

Back from holiday and a “right blobby” as had too many cream teas washed down the lashings of scumpy! I’m trying to pound the roads as off to Nottingham for ½ marathon soon. Yhere is a “duathlon” this week (12th) meet at the usual place and time. There is a slight problem on the next open swim as it the bank holiday weekend and there is a regatta in the docks. I’ll see if I can make it a week earlier if possible? On the results front: Paul T takes pride of place as came 1st in “triple ironman” a few seconds under 38 hours. Full details if you google “enduroman” This makes up for the channel relay swim which stopped after 8 hours with an estimated 24 to go! They did get the furthest of anyone/anygroup that day. I have a link for a YouTube video if anyone is interested. Outlaw IM triathlon Mathew C 11h 20m Sandy W 12h 19m. London Tri Chris R 2 44m Karen H not heard. Hull Tri Shaun R 58m 10s 15th place. This W/E its either a recce on Vitruvian route ? contact Chris R or Beverley Tri. I’m off to Beverley to tackle the massive wall to clamber over to get out the pool and dodge trains at the level crossing on the run!  Best wishes and see some of you on Thursday

31.8.10

I enclose the results from Race 11. This was somewhat curtailed/shortened due to generally vile conditions. I think they are 100% but I was tricked slightly as the run times were net and cycle times gross (allowing for handicapped start) so the maths was a bit more complicated. I regret I won’t make the social cycle on Thursday as I’m on-call. At the moment I may think about training Sunday if anyone fancies hooking up but unsure where currently. The next “duathlon” is 9/9/10 and I suggest meeting up 18:00 for 18:30 start due to the nights drawing in. We need to have an AGM soon to thrash out issues for 2011 and I’ll forward some items for discussion later this week. Please let me know if you have any items to discuss, moans, groans or if you wish to stand for any positions within the club.  Ialso enclose the times for Croxby Crawl on 25/8/10 Gary T 25m 16s Dave R 31m 10s Doc C 34m 37s Vicky T 35m 30 s Also noted Simon B (who dabbled in Tri last year) Finally recorded the “outlaw” and although not watched it completely I noted Sandy W at the finish. I’m off to hunt for Mathew C and his “face-plant”. Finally good luck to those doing Vitruvian this W/E

4.9.10

I apologise in advance for the rather “dry” nature of this e-mail but regrettably it’s the bumph regarding the AGM. I think the best option will be to have the meeting next week i.e. 9/9/10 following the duathlon, though I could make it the 16th if preferred. Remember it’s your club and your chance to have a say in how it is run and influence the choice of events, club officials etc. For the record I’ve been chairman for nearly 5 years now and while not unhappy a break/change may be called for? The enclosed documents are: current yacht club agreement (need to print to read!), AGM Minutes 2009, AGM Agenda 2010. Please let me know if you can attend or apologies, preferred choice of date, if you wish any points to be raised or to be considered for any positions within the club. Best wishes and on a more sensible note I’m off to Croxby Crawl route on Sunday 08:00 if anyone fancies joining me for a 2 lap steady jog?

7.9.10

I have a few points still to clear up, the club insurance for 2011 and whether we can have a handicapped cycle race on 16/9/10. I should have it sorted by the duathlon this week. From comments so far I’ll make the AGM after this event. Please also remember it is meet up 18:00 for 18:30 start so we won’t get stuck in the dark! As regards results: Vitruvian (1/2 ironman) Paul T 4h 32m, Tony H 4h 42m, Les T 5h 12m, Dave R 5h 19m Chris R 5h 54m. I did my bit as Dr/Marshall for the Tough Ten race the same day Gary T 58m 57s, Sandy W 1h 14m Dan C 1h 33m Also spotted were an anonymous “barracuda”  racer and Phil G 1h 7m from “lincsquad” I have some photos enclosed with this e-mail. Excellent efforts especially Dan Chico who informs me training was a 2 week full board eat all you can holiday!
