POOL SWIM SESSION DETAILS

The club is fortunate to have a coached pool swimming session arranged with the help of a local swimming club. GSM is a large local competitive club and we get 1 hour of coaching on a Tuesday Evening from 9pm at the 25m pool at Whitgift School on the Willows Estate. We have 3 lanes for our own exclusive use. The cost of this session is £10 per month currently payable as a standing order to the swimming club. OPEN WATER SWIM SESSION DETAILS

The club is able to offer open water swim sessions which take place in Grimsby Docks during the summer months. These sessions will be organised under the BTA approved guidelines that are contained in this web site. The schedule of these sessions is also contained within this web site. The following are compulsory: Wet suit and swim hat. Goggles are not actually compulsory but strongly advised. Each member will be checked in and out of the water to ensure no one is missing. Anyone who has a medical condition please inform chairman (who will be at all events and is medically qualified) prior to entering water. Like wise any novices for open water swimming should inform the chairman. Swimmers of similar ability will be paired up for the event. There will be safety canoes about as well as first aid equipment and hot drinks. Standard procedure is to be followed in case of difficulty, which is roll onto your back, and raise arm vertically, if you are unsure please ask for a demonstration prior to entering the water. There will also be a spotter on the bank to ensure visual safety during the event. The venue is Grimsby Docks and the area we can swim in extends from the pumping station (near the Ross Tiger fishing boat) to the over bridge at Lock Hill roundabout. You MUST NOT go beyond the over bridge at Lock Hill. You can swim under the bascule section of Corporation Bridge only. The rest of the water under the bridge is shallow with debris and obviously to be avoided. Changing facilities are available in the canoe club (for which we make a small donation for using) which is situated in the car park of Sainsbury’s Super Market. Final briefing’s will take place on the day and touch on any relevant issues prior to the swim.
